Trucks with timber worth Rs 1.64 lakh seized

GUWAHATI, June 18: Acting on a tip off, the Divisional Forest Officer, Kamrup East Division and his team of officers detected two mini trucks while transporting illegal pine sawn timber from Meghalaya on June 15, a department communiqué said.

The trucks bearing Registration No AS-01-R-9578 and NL-02-N-8030 were intercepted near Datalpara and Beharbari respectively on NH -37. After detection both the vehicle with sawn timber has been seized and brought to Division HQ to initiate further investigation. The total seizure volume were determined at Rs. 1,64,000. The crusade against the illegal timber trade will be continued, the communiqué added.
