Two arrested for betting on IPL in Chirang, Cash Rs 1,05,040 seized

Chirang: In two separate incidents, Assam police based on a tip-off arrested two gamblers betting on Indian Premier League (IPL) in Bijni area of Chirang District on Sunday.

In the first case, one Ukil Barman was arrested from Bollam Bazaar area and recovered cash Rs 61,650 from his possession.

Similarly, in another instance, Abdul Barek was arrested from Panibari Louis Gate Bazaar area and recovered Rs 43,390 cash along with 3 mobile handsets and one IPL ticket from his possession.

Earlier, on April 27, 2019, an Indian Premier League (IPL) betting gang was busted by Bijni Police and apprehended four people in connection to the incident from Batabari village in Bijni under Chirang District on Friday evening.

The apprehended persons were identified as Najib Hasan (24)Falson Ali (22) Moidul Islam (22)and Mason Ali (29).

As per police report, they have been carrying out regular operations to nab the IPL gamblers who were reported to be operating from various places under Chirang District.

Police had also recovered Samsung LCD TV, DTH set-top box, several mobile phones and cash amounting more than lakh of rupees along with motorcycles and few objectionable documents from their possession.

Several cases have been already registered in connection to the incident under the Public Gambling Act, 1867.
