Two arrested for demanding ransom by Assam Police

GUWAHATI, July 25: The Bharalumukh police arrested one identified as Dipen Das (36) from in front of the Sohum Shoppe, GS Road on Wednesday allegedly while he was heading to collect a ransom amount of Rs 1 lakh. He hails from Rajapara area of Boko.

According to police source, Diepn demanded the ransom amount from an individual identified as Santosh Harlalka, a resident of Kumarpara under Bharalumukh police station allegedly in the direction of ULFA (I) leader Dristi Rajkhowa. After receiving the demand, Santosh’s brother Kamal Harlalka lodged an FIR at the Bharalumukh police station following which a case (No 599/18 u/s 387 IPC R/W 10/13 UA (P)) Act was registered. In connection with this case, another identified as Simanta Rabha was also arrested on Tuesday night. He hails from Rongjuli area of Goalpara.

Notably, Dipen joint the ULFA in 2003 and surrendered in 2009. Both Dipen and Simanta had been arrested earlier at Nangal police station, West Garo Hills district.
