Two arrested for hunting wildlife in Arunachal

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh police has arrested two persons for allegedly selling wild animal meat at Shi-Yomi district on Friday.

The accused have been produced before an executive magistrate and a case has been filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate under Wildlife Protection Act 1972, an official release informed. On getting information on hunting and sale of local wild meats from local sources, a team of forest and police officials led by West Siang Divisional Forest Officer Abhinav Kumar raided a roadside shop near Hirgo village in Shi-Yomi district and found a large Indian Civet displayed for sale. The dead animal and two accused Tatu Kiri and Sunil Kiri were taken into custody.

During the joint operation it was found that the roadside shop owned by Tatu Kiri, located right side of famous Siko Dido Waterfall on the way to Mechuka is used for displaying and selling wild meat to the passengers and passersby from Aalo.

Mechuka Range forest Officer Marbom Sora visited the shop under disguise as customers looking for wild meat. After waiting for almost an hour, a group of local visitors came to the shop and one of them was carrying a large Indian civet carefully hidden inside a basket. At this point of time, entire team of officials came to the scene and arrested the culprits and took custody of the civet, the release added.
