Two arrested for taking bribe

Guwahati, May 24: A written complaint was lodged at the ACB police station on May 23 on demand for bribe allegedly by junior engineer Sushil Talukdar of Bongaon block , Chaygaon circle of Kamrup rural district. As per FIR, the JE along with the BDO Md Atafur Rehman, had demanded bribe to the tune of Rs 20,000 for the purpose of preparation and disbursal of estimate to pay wages to the job card labours, under MGNREGA. The FIR was registered at ACB PS as case number 09/2018 u/s 7/13(1)d/13(2) of PC Act.

Based on the FIR, investigators of ACB PS under the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti Corruption, Assam, laid a trap for the corrupt public servants this evening. The main accused, whose actual name turned out to be Suchitra Talukdar (50 yrs), JE for Bongaon block, was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant at 4.15 PM, in his office chamber.

Further, the BDO Md Atafur Rehman (58 yrs) was also found personally present in the office chamber of the JE on the chair of the JE in the Bongaon block office, at the time of accepting the bribe and he has also been arrested. Meanwhile, the investigators are carrying out searches at the residences and offices of the two arrested persons. The arrested duo shall be produced before the Court of the Special Judge Assam in Guwahati tomorrow.
