SHILLONG, Feb 1: Two independent candidates filed their nomitions on the second day of the filing of nomitions here at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Shillong for the forthcoming Assembly polls. Independent candidate from Nongkrem constituency Lambor Malngiang and another independent candidate from Mawlai, Teibor Pathaw, filed their nomitions on Thursday. Speaking to mediapersons after filing nomition, Malngiang said that there was much unrest in most of the political parties and so he had decided to contest the election as an independent candidate. “ I am very much confident of winning the polls since I am serving people not only during elections but all the time,” he said, adding his priority areas would be good healthcare, good road connectivity and quality education because school dropout in Nongkrem constituency was quite high as many parents could not afford to send their children to schools. On being asked if it would be tough for an independent candidate to take on the candidates of political parties, he denied such threat, saying people in today’s generation would not look at the party of the candidate but at the individual himself. Malngiang, however, refused to divulge his strategy for the polls.
