SHILLONG, May 20: In a major blow to the banned outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), two of its cadres today surrendered before the Meghalaya Home Minister James K Sangma and in the presence of DGP of Meghalaya Police SB Singh.

The two cadres of the banned militant outfit who had surrendered before the police included Aiborlang Thongni (36) from Mawpud village in South West Khasi Hills district. Thongni joined the HNLC in the year 2001.

Another cadre who surrendered on Sunday was Rishalin Syiemlieh (27) who is a residence of Phodjaud village and when she joined the outfit she was just 14 years old. The two after joining the outfit were taken to Chitagong Bangladesh for arms training. Thongni, a veteran in the HNLC, used to stay at a place called Bilwa in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Rishalin Syiemlieh is the longest serving female cadre in the HNLC and she has close relations with the outfit’s top leadership. The duo married in 2013 and have two children and this has promoted them to surrender before the police to give a proper upbringing to their two children.
