The first to succumb was an government employee, Sushil Gogoi (55), posted as State Excise Inspector in Jorhat. The inspector along with three other friends were returning from Mariani when the black colour Maruti Wagon-R in which they were travelling turned turtle and hit  the railway track near Moormoria under Cinmora Outpost, leaving Sushil Gogoi dead on the spot while Noren Doley, an employee of the military station in Jorhat, sustained major injuries and was referred to AMCH, Dibrugarh. Two others sustained minor injuries and are reportedly undergoing treatment at JMCH.

In another accident, Abdul Mann Hussain (47) was crushed to death by a speeding Tata Indica vehicle at around 10:30 pm when the deceased was trying to cross the AT road in front of Jyoti Laboratory. The Indica, however, maged to flee the scene as the otherwise busy Baruah-Chariali area was deserted.
