MANGALDAI: In a tragic incident in Kharupetia town of Darrang district, two workers, unfortunately, lost their lives inside a new septic tank on Monday.

Saha Alam, a mason by profession, along with his co-worker Safikul Islam entered a septic tank under construction in the residential campus of one Manik Saha of Tilapatti at ward no. 4 of the town. However, Manik Saha failed to get any response from both the workers and suspecting something wrong, he entered the tank only to find both the workers in an unconscious state.

People of the locality, on hearing the hue and cry of Saha, gathered and helped him get them out of the tank. A team of police from Kharupetia Police Station led by Officer-in-charge, Sub Inspector Chandan Goswami immediately swung into rescue operation with the help of members of the local fire and emergency service and rescued both the workers in a critical condition.

Both the workers were taken to Kharupetia Primary Health Centre without any delay and were referred to Mangaldai Civil Hospital where they were declared brought dead. The cause of the death is to be ascertained only after the post-mortem but the doctors suspect it to be a case of cardiac failure due to acute shortage of oxygen supply.
