U-21 NEC Gold Cup Football meet begins today

GUWAHATI, Feb 22: Dr. T Ao U-21 NEC Gold Cup Football Championship will kick off tomorrow in two different venues where seven states of North East region excluding Mizoram are taking part.The iugural ceremony will be held at SAI Regiol Centre, Guwahati from 5pm.

The teams are divided in two groups. Aruchal Pradesh, galand, Manipur and hosts Assam are placed in Group A while Tripura, Meghalaya and Sikkim will battle in other group. Group B matches will be held at LNIPE, Tepesia while SAI, Guwahati will organize other matches.

Disclosing the metter in a press meet president of organizing committee Swapnil Barua said,“The champion team will be awarded Rs. 3 lakh along with huge trophy while the runner up will get Rs. 2 lakh including the trophy. Interestingly the third best team will receive Rs one lakh too. February 26 is rest day and fil will be held on February 28 at SAI complex.”

Meghalaya will take the challenge of Sikkim in the opening match on Friday morning. Before the opening ceremony galand will play against Manipur at 2.30 pm, then Assam will play against Aruchal under flood lights.
