Udalguri administration organizes Swachhata Mela

TANGLA, April 5: In a bid to spread the importance of sanitation and cleanliness among the masses and targeting to achieve Prime Minister Modi’s vision of ‘Clean India’ by October 2, 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Udalguri district administration under the aegis of District Water and Sanitation Committee (DWSC) Udalguri organized a day-long Swachhata Mela 2017 at Udalguri DC office parade ground on Wednesday.

The programme which was initiated with Swachhata Mela flag hoisting by Lwmshrao Daimari, EM (PHE) BTC, was followed by iuguration of a photo exhibition gallery by Rihon Daimari, State Minister PHED.  An open session was also held where Lwmshrao Daimari delivered the welcome speech.

Speaking at the open session Rihon Daimari said, “Why do we need to wait till 2019? Our State must achieve Prime Minister Modi’s vision of ‘Clean India’ by October 2, 2017.”  Daimari further added that each and every individual should make an effort for a clean and green tion.

“Fresh air, potable drinking water and a clean and sanitized society free from polythene is what we are thriving for the success of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,” Daimari added.  The session was attended as resource person by Ranjan Kr. Baruah, noted social entrepreneur of NE India. The  role of media was also discussed where jourlists Ram Upadhay and Dipen Deka spoke about the important role played by media in spreading the message of cleanliness and sanitation.

The programme, which was attended by people from all walks of life, was also attended by Tridip Daimari, Speaker BTC, Suresh Tanti, MCLA, Maheswar Boro, MLA, and many others. Cultural troupes representing Bodo, Gorkha and Assamese community also performed on the occasion.
