Udalguri district bandh paralyzes normal life at Kalaigaon

KALAIGAON, July 13: The 24-hour Udalguri district bandh on Monday paralyzed normal life in Kalaigaon. The bandh was called by the Udalguri District Committee of Asom Jatiyatabadi Juba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) against the assault on Kantha Kr. Das by some unknown miscreants.

 Kantha Kr. Das, joint secretary of Udalguri AJYCP, was attacked on July 11 in his residence at Harishinga by unknown miscreants. He is now in a critical condition. Meanwhile, Mukut Das, president of Udalguri AJYCP, said, “If the police are uble to arrest the miscreants within 48 hours then the union will continue its movement.”

During the 24-hour Udalguri bandh, buses and other vehicles did not ply and streets wore a deserted look in the Kalaigaon area. Government offices, banks, schools, colleges along with other institutions remain closed. Adequate security measures had been made throughout the Bhergaon Subdivision in six police station areas like Kalaigaon, Khairabari, Dimakuchi, Paneri, Harishinga and Tangla to control the law and order situation during the bandh.  No untoward incident was reported. The bandh also passed of peacefully in neighbouring town Tangla.
