TANGLA, June 9: Amidst reports of attack on innocent persons on suspicion of being sophadhora (child lifter), dacoits and robbers in various parts of the State, Udalguri district reported a mob attack on three youths in 2 No. Rajagarh under Dimakuchi PS in Udalguri on Friday.

The villagers alleged that fraudsters in the disguise of sadhus have been roaming in the area and duping people of their valuables for the past couple of days. The three youths had visited the house of one Niranjan Barman, when locals in large number accused the youths of being dacoits and attacked them, leaving them critically injured. The mob even set ablaze their Bajaj Pulsar bike. The Dimakuchi police later rescued the youths who suffered multiple grievous injuries and after treatment they were referred to GMCH. The condition of one of them is stated to be critical.

Though the identity of the trio has not been ascertained, they are suspected to be Hindi-speaking people. The conscious circles have exhorted the people not to fall prey to rumours.
