Union Home Ministry Sanctions Asylum for Foreign nationals Ahead of NRC final draft

Guwahati: Amidst the anxiety of the publication of the final NRC draft, Centre has sanctioned the first stand-alone detention camp for those unidentified foreign nationals in Assam. The facility will be set up in Goalpara district over a period of one year.

In this regard, Home Minister Rajnath Singh says, ” There is no need to panic. It is only a draft and the people will be given adequate opportunity for objections.” He added, “I will like to assure everyone that the NRC exercise is being carried out in a totally impartial, transparent and meticulous manner and will continue to be so. at every stage, adequate opportunity of hearing is given to all persons concerned. the entire process is being conducted according to law and due procedure is being followed”.

NRC is being prepared to identify illegal migrants in Assam. The Principal Secretary of Assam home and political Department, LS Changsan said, “This will be the first stand-alone camp with a capacity of 3500 people at present there are six detention camps operating in the state comprising of 1000 detainees.”

On Sunday, Mr. Singh had a meet with CM Sarbananda Sonowal and some senior officials wherein they have had discussed about the lakhs of people that will be detained after the draft get published.
As directed by the Supreme Court, the Registrar-General of India will have to publish the final list on July 30 to segregate Indian citizens in Assam from those who entered the state illegally from Bangladesh after March 25, 1971. In the first list, the names of 1.9 crores of the 3.29 applicants were published.
