Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad to Release “Digital North East Vision 2022” On August 11

The Union Information Technology (IT) and Law & Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will release the document 'Digital North East Vision 2022' on August 11 in Guwahati. The Vision Document will be released in the presence of Chief Ministers and IT Ministers of North East States and senior officials of Central Government Ministries comprising DoNER. An official release stated that the 'Vision Document' emphasizes leveraging digital technologies to transform lives of people of the North East and enhance the ease of living.

The Document recognizes eight digital thrust areas viz, Digital Infrastructure, Digital services, Digital empowerment, Promotion of Electronics Manufacturing, Promotion of IT and ITes including BPOs, Digital Payments, Innovation & Start ups and Cyber security. State-wise roadmaps for implementing digital initiatives in the North East States have been advanced.

Three parallel sessions have also been scheduled on Saturday before the event for the release of the Vision 2022 which comprises a Networking Workshop on Hub and Spoke Model for BPOs, a session on expanding the role and reach of Common Services Centre and another session on Government eMarket Place (GeM). These sessions would try to expose the participants to the implementation and the role of these initiatives in offering employment opportunities, delivery of various services digitally to the rural population and enhancing the efficiency of governance.

Before the main event, the Minister of Electronics and Technology and Chief Minister of Assam will lay the foundation stone for the Common Facilitation Centre and Smart Meter Manufacturing facility in Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) in Tech City, Bongara Village, Assam in view of promotion of electronics manufacturing in the North Eastern region.

Digital North East’ is envisaged as an essential part of the Digital India programme and would help in leveraging the power of Information Technology to leapfrog the overall development of the North East region and perceive its full potential.
