NAGAON, July 22: Amidst the uproar and massive agitation of various organizations, the Nagaon district administration and NHAI were compelled to suspend the Raha Toll Plaza for 24 hours on Sunday. During these 24 hours, the officials of the NHAI will take the final decision whether the toll plaza at Raha should be stopped or continued. Soon after declaration of suspension of Toll Plaza at Raha by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the agitators also suspended the agitation. According to sources, earlier thousands of protesters of KMSS, AJYCP, KSU and other organizations staged protest against the Raha Toll Plaza and claimed that the toll plaza was illegal. They demanded that the toll plaza should be closed down as it was set up by violating the norms and guidelines of NH Act. The protesters blocked the NH 37 road over hours and vehicles had to pass through another bypass road via Bebejia towards Morigaon road.

During the demonstration, representatives of the district administration as well as the representatives of NHAI sat for discussion with the protesters and asked for 24 hours to take the final decision. But the protesters did not agree to that proposal and carried on with their protest till afternoon. In the afternoon, the district administration as well as the NHAI authority finally bowed down before the demands of the agitators and declared the suspension of Raha toll plaza for 24 hours and within these 24 hours, the NHAI will take the final decision whether the toll plaza should be continued or stopped.
