Uproar in Chirang after village headman found dead, Locals lynched two out of anger

Chirang: Sensation prevails in Bijni’s Gargaon village under Chirang District, after two youths were brutally lynched to death on Wednesday morning.

As per sources, one village headman of Gargaon village identified as Gouranga Das was reported to be missing since yesterday night.

Following the incident, the family members of the village headman along with other villagers interrogated one Bipul Das who earlier threatened the village headman for dire consequences over a woman related case in the area.

Local people also informed that during the questioning, Bipul confessed that he had killed the village headman on Tuesday night and later buried the body at a nearby cremation ground with the help of his accomplice Ranjit Das.

Angry villagers then thrashed both the youth to death on the spot.

Reports also claimed that two women identified as Prajapati Das and Gita Das was also suspected to be involved in the murder case of the village headman Gourango Das and were severely beaten up by the local people. Both the women are now being treated at Bijni’s Bhetagaon Civil Hospital.

Meanwhile, speaking to The Sentinel Digital, Superintendent of Police, Chirang District, Sudhakar Singh said, “So far no arrests have been made in connection to the incident, however, we have interrogated few suspects whose names cannot be revealed as of now. The bodies will be disposed off today. Post mortem report has not been received by us so far. Our investigation is on and we will proceed in the case accordingly.”
