Urn of Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Ashes to Arrive in Guwahati on Wednesday

GUWAHATI, Aug 20: The urn containing the ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is arriving in Assam on Wednesday for immersion in the Brahmaputra and the Barak.

The family members of the former Prime Minister, the moderate face of the BJP, immersed his ashes in the Ganga at Haridwar on Sunday in the presence of BJP president Amit Shah and others. The BJP has already decided to immerse the ashes of Vajpayee in as many as 100 sacred rivers of the country. The party’s national leaders have asked the BJP Assam Pradesh to receive the urn of ashes of the former Prime Minister from the party’s headquarters at New Delhi on August 22, 2018.

According to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in Guwahati, State BJP president Rajit Kumar Dass is leaving for New Delhi on Tuesday to receive the urn of ashes on Wednesday. He is supposed to arrive in the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport, Borjhar in Guwahati back with the urn at 2.30 pm on Wednesday. State Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, along with his council of ministers, BJP MLAs, MPs and party leaders, is going receive the urn at the airport on the same day.

Dass let the media know that the ashes of the former Prime Minister would be immersed in the Brahmaputra and the Barak. He further said that the Chief Minister is going to hold a discussion with party leaders and ministers on Tuesday on the issue of immersion of the ashes in State rivers.
