Use of Mobile Phones To Attract Three Years Expulsion For HSLC Examinees

GUWAHATI: Alarmed at alleged reports of question paper leak during the first day of High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC)/High Madrassa Examinations, 2019, the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) has decided to expel examinees for three years in case they are caught with mobile phones inside examination centres.

A SEBA official told The Sentinel that the Board’s decision has already been conveyed to all those who are in-charge of the examination centres across the State. The examination centres will display the decision of SEBA on a notice Board prominently, he said.

“Despite the ban on carrying mobile phones inside the examination halls, there are reports that some students make desperate attempts to use cell phones for the purpose of cheating. A few students must have been successful also to use such gadget due to laxity in monitoring by the concerned in-charge of examination centres. From now on those caught will mobile phones will be expelled for three years from taking the HSLC examinations,” the official said.

Altogether 3,42,702 students are appearing for the HSLC examination and 9,441 for Assam High Madrassa examination at 857 examination centres across the State. The highest number of students (26,080) sitting for the examinations are from Nagaon district and the lowest (2,751) from Dima Hasao.

For safety and security during the examination, two CCTV cameras have been installed in the examination halls and LED bulbs have also been used so that the examination halls get brighter.

The SEBA official said Section 144 CrPC has been imposed ahead of 50 metres of the examination venues to prevent untoward incident during the examination. In order to prevent any malpractices during the examination, the Board has arranged strict security measures. The Board is also deploying Flying Squads in the sensitive centres.

The SEBA has further engaged cyber experts to probe the alleged reports of question paper leak at Jajori High School in Nagaon district on February 14.
