Village functiories try to do compromise

SHILLONG, March 7: After brutally killing four members of a family in the alleged me of practicing witchcraft, the village functiories of Mrigre village, West Garo Hills had the audacity to approach the living family members to enter into a compromise.

The villagers of Mrigre have even given a written agreement that they will not harm the wife and children of the murdered people. This look for a compromise came along with a written assurance that wife and kids of the already marauded s will not be harm.

One of those arrested –looking for a compromise is Jespon T Sangma, an inflntetial person and a cousin of the deceased.  

Senior police investigating officers told The Sentinel, “Our investigations lead to a process of arresting more and more people for abetting the killings”.

Superintendent of Police Mukesh Singh said, “When our investigating team is on the job to ravage these unwanted issues”.

The widow, a semi literate mother of four was out of words on Friday, even as she explained that some of the village elders along with her arrested distant brother-in-law were part of the conspiracy to settle the issues pertaining to family land, stated Jenny Sangma while interpreting the widow, even as she questioned on the action taken by the law enforcing authorities in bbing the cruel perpetrators of the crime..

Negating the superstition emating from many social factors, the wife of the murdered victim-a school teacher was categorical in saying that there is no witchcraft practice in her life. She wanted an inquiry to il all those involved in the barbaric killings of her family members. Note mentioning that the bodies of the four were exhumed with their hands tied at the back.

Till date, the widow is scared to visit Mrigre village to see her niece and other relatives. The apprehension emated from the rumors related to similar actions after she officially stated about her uncompromising position to fight on the circumstances that led to her husband, father-in-law, mother-in- law and her niece in law brutal murder.

The police already made four arrest. Prominent among them is Jepson T Sama, the cousin of David Maxeniier T Sangma, but nothing concrete has been unveiled till today.

The incident happened on January 7, 2015. The family members only reported about the incident on January 19th. By then around 60 members of Mrigre village had lodged an FIR accusing him of practicing witchcraft and links with the militant outfits.
