Villagers demand construction of concrete bridge over Noa river

From a Correspondent

TANGLA, Feb 20: The high-pitched slogans of model BTC is a distant dream when the plight of the people of Balipara under Udalguri district of Mwdoibari MCLA constituency is taken into account. Life is a balancing act for the people of the locality as the makeshift bamboo bridge over Noa River is the only means of communication for the people of Khoirabari, Hapabari ,Pakimuri, Deur, Thepakhat, Kuhiyabil, Rupatol, Majarchuba and Kabir-Ali villages since the past 25 years.

People need to cross the makeshift bamboo bridge to travel to neighbouring towns like Kalaigaon and Tangla. What adds to the woes of the people every year is rainfall which washes away the makeshift bamboo bridge and compels students to cross the Noa River with boats or ba trunk boats. The villagers’ repeated appeals for a concrete bridge have fallen into deaf ears. They have also been compelled to reconstruct the makeshift bamboo bridge every year with their own savings. The change of guard at Dispur has also not relieved the woes of the villagers.  The villagers have exhorted the State Government to construct a concrete bridge over the Noa River in the greater interest of the people.
