Villagers under threat as rainwater creates havoc

HOLLONGI, July 2: More than ten dwelling houses got partially submerged due to heavy rainfall and back flow of several cannels and river in Hollongi Patila Village of Balijan Circle on Monday.

The continuous heavy downpour has created the day to day life miserable said a local of Hollongi Patila. While referring to the overflowing of Panka Nallah, Jomo Uma, a local in the area told that the water flow back due to which havoc in the village and nearby area has risen.

“It is very unfortunate that every year we have to face such a situation and there are severe loss of our property, granary and also suffer economically”, he added. This year also the situation is same and fourteen dwelling houses, granary and cattle shed, agriculture, horticulture and kitchen garden are submerged by the back flow of water from the cannels.

Youth leader Yowa Bullet and Taba Takar informed that there may be some obstruction in free flow of the Panka Nallah that is obstructing the flow of water to the downstream. The duo demanded immediate action from the administration and government as the villagers, school going children and women are facing lots of difficulties due to the flood like situation, he added.

Few local said that we have been reporting our problems to the administration but the problem remain same and no action have been initiated so far.

Local MLA and Minister Land Management, Environment & Forest Nabam Rebia informed this daily that, he has already informed the NDRF team based there and directed DC Papumpare to visit the area and access the ground reality.
