Voting on 59 Seats on Sunday In Last Phase of Lok Sabha Polls

NEW DELHI: Voting will be held in 59 constituencies across seven states and a union territory on Sunday in the seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha elections.

Over 10.1 crore voters will decide the fate of 918 candidates including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They will cast their ballot at over 1.12 lakh polling stations.

While campaigning ended on Friday in six of the States, it ended on Thursday in West Bengal on the Election Commission’s orders. In an unprecedented action, the poll panel on Wednesday curtailed the campaign period in West Bengal following violence involving BJP and Trinamool Congress workers in Kolkata during a road show of BJP chief Amit Shah on Tuesday. Apart from the heat generated by the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, the southern region of Bengal that is going to the polls in the final phase on Sunday is reeling under the impact of a scorching sun. Meanwhile, with Trinamool Congress pointing out that Bharatiya Janata Party leader Mukul Roy being an ‘outsider’ should stay away from the areas where elections were taking place on Sunday, an Election Commission official on Saturday said that he will abide by the rules. On the other hand, Describing Trinamool Congress as the B team of the Bharatiya Janata Party, senior Congress functionary and leader of opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Abdul Mannan says both Trinamool and BJP have the “common hidden agenda” of crushing his party.
