With the clock stricking 12 at midnight, India celebrates its 72nd Independence Day today. Since the day India attained its first independence in 1947, the country has been observing its independence day on August 15 every year irrespective of the ups and downs, social and political upheavels, terror threats and inconsistentent economic developments. Like every year, this year too the present Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi delivered his Independence Day speech at Lal Qila early in the moring addressing the nation on this biggest day in India’s history.

Modi, after hosting the national flag sharp at 7.32 in the morning at Lal Qila, the PM commenced his Independence day speech. Keeping apart what the Prime Minister said about the rest of the nation, if his mentions about the north-eastern region of the country is to be pondered on, we can find him counting some of the good deeds he did in the region.

Right from an account of the development of highways, waterways, airways and railways in the North-Eastern states, PM also mentioned the remarkable progress in electricity supply to the states, especially to the remotest villages. Further the PM mentions the progressing youths of the region and said that the youths are opening their own BPOs and are learning to be independent through the Digital India move.

Speaking about the dark and underdeveloped past of the region, Narendra Modi said that once upon a time the national capital Delhi was a far away place for North- east (Dilli door hai), but today Delhi is right at the door of the North-east and that has been made possible in these 4 years of his tenure.

The celebrations in the national capital was at its peak today with school students, spectators and invited guests joining the event in huge quantities.
