Wife Accuses Husband of Helping MLA to rape her

Guwahati: A heinous incident has come to light where a man has been arrested following a complaint from his wife that he had assisted and felicitated an MLA of Assam in raping her twice in May.

Police sources said that the accused person was arrested from Azara area in Guwahati and has been produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Hailakandi. The court has remanded him to five days in police custody.

As per the complaint of the wife made before the police, AIUDF MLA, Nijam Uddin Choudhury, had allegedly raped her at Hailakandi circuit house on May 19 and later at her house on May 23 while she claimed that on both occasions, the accused husband had facilitated the MLA to commit the heinous crime.

Furthermore, the victim woman told police that MLA Nijam Uddin Choudhury tried to take her to Guwahati, but could not succeed in his plan as she threatened to commit suicide and end her life.

She further alleged that she was kept confined in her home by her husband and threatened her and this why she could not lodge a police earlier.

The Algapur MLA, however, dismissed the allegation, saying, "It is totally baseless and a conspiracy against me."

Meanwhile, the MLA told that he met the woman only once along with her husband to settle a family problem where they wanted his help and he had no personal connection with the complainant.
