Wild elephants wreak havoc in villages of Demow

DEMOW, December 28: Under Demow Circle office at Sarugua and other villages, in the past few days a herd of wild elephants has strayed into the villages and created fear and panic among the villagers. The herd of wild elephants entered the paddy fields of Sarugua along with other villages and destroyed the ripe crops and agricultural land, causing huge losses to the poor farmers. The people of the villages cannot sleep during night and burst crackers to protect themselves from the wild elephants. Houses of Puspa Changmai, Arup Gogoi, Bubul Changmai of Sarugua area were destroyed by the elephants. The local people have informed the Demow Forest Ranger Office along with the forest department in Sivasagar district many times but they have allegedly not taken any steps.
