Wild jumbo succumbs to injury

TANGLA, May 24: A jumbo which bore several injury marks and had been battling for life since May 18, succumbed to its injuries on Monday evening at Ganeshghat village of Udalguri district.

Reportedly the baby wild tusker was uble to cross a small stream and fell on its feet while entering a non-descript village near Majuli tea garden on May 18.Villagers remain eye-witness to the multiple injury marks on its body and blood was seen pouring out from an injury on its forehead. The jumbo was undergoing treatment from a team of vets since May 19. Even senior vet specialists from Khapara were called to treat the jumbo but no positive response was seen.

Tea garden authorities of Noipara and Majuli tea gardens also offered support but after the jumbo went into a state of coma it could not be saved and it breathed its last on May 23 evening.
