Woman dies, 9 injured in road mishap

HAFLONG, MAY 6: In a tragic accident , a women died on the spot while nine other passengers including a four-month old minor were seriously injured when a Lanka bound TATA Sumo turned turtle near Lower Haflong at about  6.30 am this morining. The accident took place when the vehicle bearing registration no AS-01DD—5369 turned turtle fell in to a road side gorge. Police immediately rushed to the spot and rescued  victims. Nine passengers who have sustained severe injuries have been admitted to Haflong  Civil Hospital. The police said that the bolt of the driver’s door suddenly opened and driver Mr Jyotish Dibragede came out of the vehicle following which the vehicle fell into the road side gorge. The police however arrested the driver and a case was registered at Haflong in this regard. The deceased was  identified as Ms Subila Maibangsa of Disgao Raji, Haflong and the injured have been identified as Ms Kanodi Nunisa, 46, Mr Pocket Hapila,34, Mr Lonex Phonglo, 40, Mr Suresh Das, 48, Mr Bipul Boro, 43, Ms Dinola Barman, 55, Ms Bili Barman, 34 and four-month-old Rusi Barman.
