Woman Killed in a Case of Witch-hunting in Joysagar, Assam

JOYSAGAR: In yet another case of witch-hunting, the body of a female labourer was recovered by the local people in the Borhat Koia Basti area under Borhat TE of Charaideo district on Monday. Local people spotted the body near a drain of the tea garden and called Sonari Police. The police recovered the body. There were clear signs of torture and attack by a sharp weapon like dao on the body and police suspect that the woman must have died following a violent attack. During the preliminary investigation, police learned that a puja had taken place on Sunday night and to satisfy the god, some superstitious people allegedly killed the female labourer, suspecting her to be a witch. The victim has been identified as Pawanmoti Koiri, wife of Duklu Koiri of Borhat TE. She also had a child. Sonari Police have registered a case in this connection and investigation is on.
