GUWAHATI, July 18: Akhlima Begum from Doboka of Nogaon district, who fraudulently claimed her husband’s insurance policies, surrendered at the Paltan Bazar police station on Wednesday. Notably, she availed interim bail from the Gauhati High Court to avoid police arrest. However, as soon as the validity of the bail ended on July 18, she surrendered to police having no other alternative. Meanwhile, she has been sent to judicial custody on Wednesday itself. In connection with the case, three more – Dr Kamal Chandra Gogoi, Hilal Ahmed and Samsul Haque Choudhury are already in judicial custody. Earlier, Akhlima Begun claimed an insurance policy worth Rs 57 lakhs from EXIDE Life Insurance and another worth Rs 80 lakhs from HDFC Life on March 21 that were insured in the name of her husband, Samsul Haque Choudhury (40). On receiving her claim, the insurance companies initiated cross-verification of her claims and realized that the entire move was supplemented by fake documents and her husband himself was alive following which, both the companies, lodged FIRs against her.
