Work of no smart city project begins as yet

GUWAHATI, April 3: It’s no smart mouthing – the work of none of the 13 smart city projects taken up in Guwahati has been started as yet. While 12 of the projects are at various stages for their start, one of the projects is still under observation.

This has been revealed on the floor of the State Assembly on Tuesday when State Guwahati Development Department (GDD) Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was replying to a question from AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam.

According to information given by the minister, the work of none of the 13 smart city projects taken up in Guwahati has been started as yet. While works of some of the projects have been awarded, detailed project reports (DPRs) of some other are being prepared. While the tenders of some of the projects have already been floated, one of the 13 projects is still under observation.

According to information revealed by the minister, the tender of the Rs 212-crore Borsola Beel Development project has already been floated, the DPRs of Rs 488-crore Morabharalu Bank Development project, Rs 826-crore project for the overall development of Bharalu bank, the Rs 250-crore project for the conservation of Deepor Beel and the Rs 49.10-crore streetlight project are being prepared.  The city operation centre project is still under observation.

The information given by the minister has revealed further that a traffic magement system is being set up centrally at the Assam Police Headquarters in Guwahati to control traffic in the city under the smart city project. For traffic magement in the city, 200 additiol police personnel have been deployed.
