GUWAHATI, March 29: A sensitization workshop on ‘Clinical Use of Blood’ was held at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) auditorium complex recently, said a press release. The meeting saw the presence of faculties of GMCH, Regiol Nursing College, Blood Bank in-charges and doctors of different health institutions including private hospitals, PG students etc. The workshop was iugurated by Dr Kabul Saikia, principal of Gauhati Medical College Hospital. In his iugural address, Dr Saikia said that such kind of workshop will be highly beneficial for the clinicians. Dr PN Talukdar, Addl Project Director, Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) in his address requested the participants regarding the use of blood components instead of the whole blood. He also presented a brief overview of Blood Transfusion Services in the State. Dr Sanjay Jadhav, tiol Advisor, Blood Transfusion Services, CO, New Delhi in his speech stressed on the ratiol use of blood and voluntary blood dotion.
Dr Sunil B Rajadhyaksha, Transfusion Expert, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai emphasized on the involvement of clinicians in avoiding the use of whole blood and insisted on the use of blood components. Dr Maitreyee Bhattacharyya, Professor, Institute of Immune Hematology, Kolkata dwelt upon the process of component separation in blood banks and urged everyone present there to ensure that more and more blood banks go for component separation. Chandan Barua, Project Director, ASACS in his address requested all the clinicians present to use blood components instead of the whole blood.
