Workshop on e-classroom management in collaboration with ERNET India in NEIGRIHMS

SHILLONG: Regional Resource Centre (NEIGRIHMS), in collaboration with ERNET India, New Delhi (under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) is organizing a two-day training on “e-classroom management” for the nodal officers and technical staff of the Medical Colleges of the North East.

These staff have been deputed by their respective Medical Colleges to NEIGRIHMS and are receiving “hands-on-training” in the running and maintenance of the “state-of-the-art” video conferencing equipment that have been installed in the six medical institutions in the North East, namely the Regional Resource Centre, NEIGRIHMS, Meghalaya; the Guwahati Medical College, Guwahati, Assam; the Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, Assam; the RIIMS, Imphal, Manipur; the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research, Dimapur, Nagaland; and the Agartala Medical College, Tripura, stated a release.

NEIGRIHMS is the Nodal Headquarter for the Telemedicine Services for the whole of the North East comprising of the eight States of Meghalaya, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Mizoram and Tripura.

In addition to these six medical institutions from the North East, staffers from 44 more medical colleges are being trained over video conferencing at the same time in this workshop. These programmes are targeted towards ensuring that the sophisticated equipment are maintained properly, and utilized optimally in the delivery of teaching, training, delivery of health care throughout the country so that quality and affordable health care can reach to the last man in the queue.

This training aims to ensure seamless interlinking of all teaching and training programs in the North East along with those from the other Premier Medical Institutions all over India. It is envisaged that such facilities will help our medical institutions situated in the far-flung areas of India to overcome constraints of a shortage of Teachers/ specialist medical personnel in the fields of medicine, nursing and other paramedical courses.

It is also expected to expand the delivery of specialist as well as standard health care to the districts (where there is a felt need). NEIGRIHMS is already delivering services in the following fields:

Tele-evidence (saving the country not only in costs incurred by a doctor travelling to the different courts in the country to give evidence, but also in ensuring that the scarce medical personnel do not have to leave their posts and patients unattended while doing so).

Tele-health care in the field of Palliative Care, including outreach services to terminally ill patients staying at home.

Neurosurgery is soon to commence Tele-follow-up for patients coming from other States, who have undergone surgery in NEIGRIHMS and have been discharged to their homes.

NEIGRIHMS is also planning to roll-out ‘Tele-Ambulance’ services to rural areas which are deprived of medical services.
