Workshop on Measles Rubella Vaccination Campaign held at Ampati, Shillong

Shillong, July 31: A district-level workshop on Measles Rubella Vaccination Campaign (MRVC) was held at the DRDA Conference Hall here at Ampati on Monday.

The day-long workshop was attended by the District School Education officials, CDPOs, Medical & Health officials, Health staff and other stake holders of South West Garo Hills district.

In his brief inaugural address, South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ramkumar S enlightened the participants on the importance of health and education in the development of society stating that spreading awareness and knowledge on preventive measures is necessary to avoid many health problems affecting the society. Vaccination is one of the measures that can prevent highly infectious diseases that continue to kill many of our infants and children”, he said.

He also highlighted on the dangers of Rubella, an infectious disease that can affect a child while still in its mother’s womb with Congenital Rubella Syndrome resulting in deafness, blindness and heart defects and called for coordinated efforts of all concerned to make the campaign a success by putting similar kind of effort and commitment to MRVC as was given during Special Intensified Mission Indradhanush (SIMI) which saw cent per cent success in the district.

Earlier, DMHO, Ampati, Dr KA Sangma, in her welcome address, highlighted the significance of this campaign for eradicating vaccine preventable diseases among children and reduce infant mortality rate in the district.
