Workshop on Women Safety And Security Begins At Dera Natung Government College

ITANAGAR: A two-day training workshop on ‘women safety and security’, sponsored by Vishwa Yuvak Kendra (VYK) and organized by National Youth Project (NYP) begun at the Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) here on Tuesday.

Speaking as chief guest, DGP SB K Singh citing his 27-year serving experience in the State since 1992 said that the topic is most impact aspect of development in Arunachal Pradesh, whose traditional and cultural lifestyle has been changing fast.

He was addressing over 100 participants, mostly girls of DNGC, Oju Welfare Association and self-help group members.

Pointing out that “empowering women means empowering a community”, he said that though efforts are on to achieve the goal, but lack of knowledge about one’s neighbour is a cause of crime.

Explaining about digital and physical space, the DGP cautioned the young girls never to accept digital friendship without knowing someone physically as it poses serious danger to safety and security.

“Same is the case for applying for jobs or attending interviews without due verification,” he said and advised the youths on how to develop mail password, particularly using local word, to prevent hacking.

Informing that 1,10,000 cases are pending in various police stations across the State, he regretted the fact that htere has been a 20 per cent rise in crimes against women in the State during 2014 to 2018.
