World Anti-Corruption Day celebrated in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Anti-Corruption Youth, Assam (ACYA) conferred the Zero Tolerance Award to five personalities of Assam for their crusade against corruption. In connection with World Anti-Corruption Day, the organization gave away the award to RTI activist Dulal Borah, journalist Kabir Saikia, journalist Balen Bhattacharya, journalist Nipa Kakati and journalist Bitopan Borah on Sunday during the observation of the World Anti-Corruption Day and the two-day long central conference of the organization held at Basudev Kalyan Trust premises in North Lakhimpur. The organization gave away the Guru Sewa Award to Premadhar Borah, one of the senior politicians of the State and former Education Minister in the AGP government.

The observation of Anti-Corruption Day and the conference of the organization began on Saturday with the unfurling of flag by ACYA president Dharma Kanta Gogoi. Along with some other programmes, a symposium on ‘Eradication of corruption and awareness’ was held with DSP Dr. Rashmi Rekha Sarmah and NASA acclaimed innovator-cum-technologist Dr. Uddhav Kumar Bhorali as resources persons on the first day.

On the second day, the open session of the event, which was chaired by Dharma Kanta Gogoi, began with a chorus. ACYA Lakhimpur president Bhadrajit Dutta delivered the welcome address. Attending in the programme as chief guests, president of Axam Xahitya Xabha Dr. Paramananda Rajbongshi and Dr. Uddhav Kumar Bhorali delivered lectures on effective measures to be adopted in order to wipe out of corruption.

RTI activist Dulal Borah also spoke on the occasion. “Our organization, which was established in support of the anti-corruption stand taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, introduced the Zero Tolerance Award in order to create awareness against corruption. Since the past year, ACYA has played active role in being vocal against corruption,” stated Dhrama Kanta Gogoi.
