GORESWAR, June 7: The World Environment Day was observed at Nikashi. The programme was organized by Modern English School Eco Club in association with Baksa district Water and Sanitation Committee with a day-long programme on the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ on June 5.
The Principal of the school inaugurated the World Environment Day programme while oath was administered by Shusmita Bhandary, general secretary of the school. Jowakim Minj, School Eco- Coordinator, spoke about the significance of World Environment Day. Following this, sapling plantation was done by the officials of Public Health Engineering Department. A demonstration on hand washing was given by Gitika Muchahary, District HRD Consultant. An exhibition of vertical garden, craft items made with plastic waste and paper bags was inaugurated by the consultant. Addressing the well-attended gathering, Pankaj Kumar Brahma, Baksa district SLWM consultant, spoke on solid and liquid waste management.
DOOMDOOMA: World Environment Day was observed by Doomdooma Town Committee at its office on Tuesday with chairman Dulu Arandhara in the chair. Besides appealing to the residents of the town to give up the habit of using plastic carry bags and not to throw plastic bags and other plastic materials in public drains, he administered the oath to preserve the environment to the employees and ward commissioners present. Later, an exchange meeting with the students was organized by taking out a procession under the guidance of Franchi Chaliha, coordinator, Hindustan-Unilever Limited Prabhat Skill Development Centre. The town committee also planted tree saplings in its premises and did extensive postering all over the town as a part of its awareness programme.
On the other hand, Noa-Dihing Foundation, an NGO, organized an inter-school marathon titled ‘Green Day Run’among the school students on June 5. After the inaugural speech delivered by the secretary, Hrishikesh Chaudhury, Seema Chaudhury, Principal of Hoonlal HS School, flagged off the marathon race where around 300 students took part. World Environment Day was also observed by Doomdooma Hoonlal HS School and Learners High School, Rupaisiding by planting tree saplings.
Silchar: In a bid to raise awareness on protecting environment, the global celebration of ‘World Environment Day’ on Tuesday was focused on the UN theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”. In this regard, a programme was organized under the banner of Farm Northeast – II supported by CARITAS INDIA, in Lakhicherra Public ME School situated in remotest village of Jirighat. Around 120 people from different village gathered at the event which included school children. They gave their best efforts to make the event a successful one.
Head master of the school, Sonamol Rajbongshi said, “I am very happy that Seva Kendra Silchar has come to extend their helping hand and support us for this special cause. Due to poor connectivity it is very difficult to conduct any event in the school premises. Our students are always deprived from showing their hidden talents in front of others. But today I am surprised at their willingness to participate in different events.” Sanku Kumar Das, teacher of the same school, said, “We should make a plastic free environment and go for plantation of trees every day. We should not wait for any special occasion for planting trees.”
The event was followed by drawing competition which was based on the theme of ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’. 16 students participated in the competition. To conceptualize the theme, school children through audio visual aid were shown how they can make changes in their everyday lives. It was followed by group activity by sharing of ideas on disadvantage of uses of polythene and positive sources to build a healthy environment. Later, Seva Kendra Silchar conducted a drama with the students by giving special focus on ‘Impacting the life of marine animals due to disposal of plastics in oceans’. A total number of 80 tree saplings were planted in the school compound.
