World Mental Health Day observed at Nagaon

NAGAON: With a day-long programme, the District Health Department in association with Gram Vikash Parishad and District Legal Services Authority, on Wednesday observed World Mental Health Day at the Alfinstan auditorium in Nagaon.

On occasion of the day, a special function was held at the auditorium which was inaugurated by the Joint Director of District Health Services, Dr Atul Pator. Gracing the function as nodal officer, Dr Dipanjalee Medhi, Assistant Professor of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, Department of Psychiatry, said that everyone had the right to live with all privileges in this world and even a mentally disturbed or mentally disordered person would get support of law for those privileges.

On the other hand, senior psychiatrist of Nagaon BP Civil Hospital, Dr Ajit Goswami said that anyone who lost his or her mental health for any reason or cause could be cured by treatment of medicine or other means. “But for such positive results we need public awareness as well as immediate response from the family of the victim,” he said.

Various dignitaries like Nagaon Superintendent of Police Sankarbrata Raimedhi, ADC Joyanta Bora, District Legal Services Authority, Pranita Moran, chief adviser to Gram Vikash Parishad, and general secretary of Sodou Asom Gramya Puthibhoral Sangstha, Balladeva Sarma graced the occasion and delivered lectures on the issue and its importance in the society.
