World No Tobacco Day observed - 1 Jun, 2018

KOKRAJHAR, May 31: With a view to bring about awareness on the myriad risks associated with tobacco consumption, the units of Red Horns Division of the army joined hands with the local population across the length and breadth of Kokrajhar and observed the World No Tobacco Day on Thursday. The activities included talks and lectures by Army medical officers on harmful effects of tobacco at various venues and joint rallies by soldiers, students, teachers and local villagers. The event witnessed people from all walks of life unite with the army soldiers in the fight against tobacco menace. Grand rallies were brought out in six different places -Kokrajhar, Akshiguri, Kachugaon, Patgaon and Ultapani -where awareness meetings were also held in community halls and schools. Students of 27 different schools participated in the rally and awareness meeting.

On the other hand, a joint awareness rally on 'World No Tobacco Day-2018' was also observed by District Tobacco Control Cell, Sonitpur and SSB personnel of Tezpur Frontier, 68th Bn. Debendra Nagar, RTC, Salonibari where school students of Tezpur participated.

Bongaigaon: Industrial Training Institute, Bongaigaon observed World Anti-Tobacco Day on Thursday. In this regard, a procession was taken out by the students and teachers from the institute. After the procession, an awareness meeting had been held where several noted persons, including ADC Bongaigaon, Joint Director of Health Services were present.

JORHAT: Along with the rest of the world, in Jorhat too World No Tobacco Day was observed with the flag-off ceremony from the premises of the District Library by Tapan Gohain, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health), while Dr. Bhatimoy Bhattacharyya spoke about the theme of the occasion. Dr. Bhatimoy Bhattacharyya, who is in-charge of the National Tobacco Control Programme, Jorhat, called upon school students to choose health not tobacco. He urged all tobacco users to take a pledge to quit tobacco.

MORIGAON: District Tobacco Control Cell, in collaboration with District Legal Service Authority (DLSA), on Thursday took out a rally across the town to observe World No Tobacco Day. To make people aware about the ill-effects of tobacco and the COTPA-2003, a public meeting was organized by the District Tobacco Control Cell at Buwalguri Secondary School, Laharighat. In the meeting, a health camp was also organized where free blood pressure and blood sugar check-up was done. Under the initiative of Dr. Jaya Prabha Bodo, DNO, NTCP, Morigaon, the programme was organized. Teachers and students from various schools as well as general public took part in the meeting.
