World Soil Day observed at KVK, Sonitpur

 Tezpur, Dec 5: World Soil Day and Rabi Campaign was observed by KVK, Sonitpur atits pam-based district office on Monday with a day-long programme.

 In connection with the programme, an open meeting was organized with the motto ‘Soils and Pulses: A symbiosis for Life’ to sensitize the farming community on the role of pulses in sustaible soil health magement.

In the beginning, Dr. PC Deka, Programme Coorditor of KVK, Sonitpur welcomed the dignitaries and farmers to the programme and presented an account of ongoing activities of the KVK with special reference to issue of soil health card to farmers.  Addressing themeeting as chief guest,  Brindabon Goswami, MLA, Tezpur LAC, spoke in detail about his vision to enhance farming productivity through integrated approach. He laid stress on utilization of land for growing non-traditiol crops targeting the industry sector to reap more

benefit from farming.

 Dr. MK Sarma, Senior Extension Specialist of Assam Agricultural University (AAU), explained the historical perspective of World Soil Day celebration and urged the farmers to

adopt soil health magement practices for sustaining productivity of soil and crops. Jadav Saikia, Chief Executive Officer of Sonitpur Zila Parishad, Dr. Jogesh Goswami, Senior Extension Specialist of AAU, Bharat Rajbongshi, Assistant Director of Agriculture and Horeswar Das, Sub Divisiol Agriculture Officer (Horticulture), Tezpur, also spoke on different aspects of soil health magement and cultivation of Rabi crops.

A total of 250 Soil Health Cards were distributed to the farmers during the programme. The programme was anchored by Hengul Jyoti Saloi, Farm Mager and ended with a vote

of thanks by Anga Sarma, SMS (Horticulture).
