'Yoga is a spiritual and ascetic discipline'

SIVASAGAR, June 21: The office of the Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar observed the 2nd Intertiol Day of Yoga at the office premises in which officers and employees of various departments took part enthusiastically on Tuesday.

The programme, which was organized by Sivasagar district administration, in collaboration with Prajapita Brahmakumaris Ishwariya Viswavidyalay, Sivasagar, was formatted in such a way that it carried a smooth flow of yoga which started with the basics of breathing techniques and simple postures to the more advanced postures by  the yoga instructor of Patanjali.

Sivasagar District Development Commissioner Abhijit Baruah, who is also the Deputy Commissioner in-charge, led the event with over 200 people assembled in the office premises.  While speaking to the media persons, Baruah said, “The aim of the event is to promote yoga awareness among the masses. Yoga is a spiritual and ascetic discipline, a part of which includes breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures. It is widely practiced for health and relaxation and it must be noted that yoga does not carry a religion behind it.”

There were also health talks by Dr Arun Changkakoty from the Prajapita Brahmakumaris Ishwariya Viswavidyalay, Sivasagar and Patanjali, Sivasagar, who said that yoga combined with proper dietary practices could help one in being a better person.

Participants claimed that the event was an inspiration to their lives. Many quipped that they were now ready to incorporate what they had leant into their daily routines. The event was also attended by Additiol Deputy Commissioners PR Gharphalia, DN Morang and Tapan Gohain, Assistant Commissioner Priyankujyoti Sarma, Rajyogini BK Rajni, Dr Ripun Borpuzari and others.

On the other hand, Sibsagar Commerce College too observed the Intertiol Day of Yoga by organizing a yoga camp at the college campus by Patanjali and the NSS Unit of the College. The camp was graced by various dignitaries including ADC P Gharpholia, ADC Tapan Gohain, Jail Superintendent Bidydhar Saikia and persons from Patanjali including Anta Dutta, Yuva Prabhari, Debojyoti Gogoi, co-convener and Ranjan Mahanta, adviser.

The programme began with the dignitaries lighting the iugural lamp along with Dr. Saumarjyoti Mahanta, Principal of the college. Then the yoga instructors instructed the attendees through the entire programme on the various asas and prayam techniques and also shed light on their benefits. The attendees included teachers, students and the office staff of the college and also some nearby residents. At the end of the programme, every attendee was enthusiastic about practicing yoga daily in order to enhance their physical and mental wellness.
