Young Assamese director Arunjit Borah impress Bollywood

Arunjit’s movie on organ donation wins accolades

GUWAHATI, July 25: Director and writer Arunjit Borah who is fast making his presence felt in Bollywood and Assamese cinema, has shifted his focus on making movies on serious health issues such as organ donation.

Borah recently made a short movie titled Happy Birth Joy to deal with the issue of organ donation with an aim to spread the message among the people as how such donation could save thousands of lives from jaws of death. The movie has been produced by Zublee Foundation. The movie has been made close on heels of veteran actor Irfan Khan lending support to an organ donation campaign designed as “More to Give”.

“What can be more beautiful than a dead body giving life to many others. The soul goes to God, but the body and its parts eventually get into the earth. So, why not make a better use of it. It is the need of the hour,” Borah said.

Hailing from Dibrugarh Borah’s love for theatre and cinema goes back to his childhood. A Founding member of Dibrugarh Aakhara Ghara drama workshop, for Borah drama remains an undying passion.

Borah was trained under renowned theatre activist Berry John in Delhi. Search for better prospects made Borah shift to Mumbai where he directed a number of short films to start with. In a film on farmer’s suicide remains closest to his heart, Borah was able to convince legendary actor late Om Purl to play the part of a debt ridden farmer.. Borah has also been signed in as the Creative Head of a Hindi TV serial to be shot in Assam. Apart from these, presently Borah is busy directing a web series. Besides, he is also the executive producer of a Hindi feature film ADRISHAY which is slated to release on August 3, 2018. Two films directed by Borah Taxii and Letters from Deuta have been screened in many national and international film festivals and widely appreciated. Presently, Borah is all geared up for a yet to be titled Assamese film to be shot at various picturesque locations of Assam. Scheduled to go on the floors by September 2018, the film is expected to be a suspense drama.
