Young generation should refrain from engaging in politics: Zubeen

A Correspondent

TANGLA: Heartthrob Zubeen Garg, in an exclusive interview to The Sentinel recently at Tangla town in Udalguri district, exhorted the youths to refrain from engaging in nasty politics. The following are excerpts from that conversation.

The Sentinel: What are your recent and current undergoing projects?

Zubeen: I recently released the audio songs of Maa album, a complete one with eight songs after a long gap of four years, including Nisukoni Geet, Politics Nokoriba Bondhu and Aakhore. The post-production work of Mor Monore Kalpanat is going on in Mumbai.

Q: You are currently in Tangla town for which project?

A: I am shooting for my fourth title song Mor Maa from my album Maa here at Jalah village on the outskirts of Tangla town where NSD graduate and actor Pabitra Rabha has set up his thematic village Amar Gaon.

Q: What is the theme and which are the faces we will see in the video project?

A: The core concept, as the name suggests, revolves round mother. Some of the noted names from the Assamese film industry like Manjula Baruah, Runu Devi and Chetana Das are associated with the project.

Q: As Assam along with the rest of nation is gearing up for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, what is your opinion about who people will vote for or what criteria are people looking for in the candidates?

A: I will not comment anything on politics. I am neither associated with any kind of politics and I abhor politics to the core. I have dedicated a song on this theme – Politics Nokoriba Bondhu. People are wise and will vote for who they love. We expect the parliamentarians to work for the betterment and welfare of the State.

Q: What is your message to today’s youth?

A: The only thing I would like to exhort the young generation is to refrain from engaging in politics. They should keep themselves engaged in productive work and pursue their hobbies and chase their goals.

Q: Do you think that the dying Assamese movie industry has witnessed renaissance post-release of your movie Mission China?

A: Yes, indeed there has been a sea change in the scenario of the industry. There are many ongoing new projects and even a couple of new cinema halls have come up. This is a good sign for the State.

Q: What are the challenges for the producers, directors or actors associated with the industry?

A: There are lots of opportunities, the only challenge is making good movies. I have released the movie Kanchanjangha on a different concept. The Jatin Bora-starrer upcoming movie Ratnakar is a good project where I have lent my voice. We are giving our level best for out-of-box ideas and themes, breaking the conventional and classical ideas which suit the taste of people. New faces must come up in the music and film industry to fill the void of the best brains in the sector.

Q: It is learnt that many proprietors of newly-built cinema halls have not received the financial assistance by the State Government as promised?

A: Yes, I too have come across the fact that the aid is pending. If the government grants it, it will be a welcome step and businessmen interested in opening new cinema halls will be encouraged. The Assamese film industry should reach new heights and everyone- from the government to the common public – should join hands to achieve this goal.
