Zubeen Garg Conferred with Purushottam Das Award

Guwahati: Singer Zubeen Garg has been conferred with the Purushottam Das Award by the organizing committee of Barpeta Chawalkhuwa Mahotsav on Monday night.

Garg has been conferred the award for his contribution to music and culture.

Receiving the award, Zubeen Garg said, "I am overwhelmed with the honour that has been given to me by the organizing committee of Barpeta Chawalkhuwa Mahotsav. I would like to extend my love, gratitude and best wishes to the people of Barpeta.

Garg, when asked about the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, he said that he doesn't have any interest in election and politics.

Purushottam Das was a worthy son of Barpeta and was a pioneer of modern Assamese music known for preservation, publicity and for spreading Assamese folk music. He was also a well-known name in the Assamese music industry as a composer and singer.
