In 2028, in another shocking incident, the body of Assam police lance naik was found lying unconscious at the official residence of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The police jawan identified as Sukleswas Kathar had been suspected to have committed suicide by firing six rounds from his service AK-47 rifle. Reportedly, the incident took place between 8.00 pm to 8.20 pm. At least six bullets were found on his body which had also raised suspicion of a murder incident. However, speaking to media, Assam Police official not willing to be named stated that the rifle was in burst mode, thus, it has resulted in six bullets hitting the jawan at one go. In automated firearms, burst mode enables the shooter to fire multiple numbers of rounds with a single pull of the trigger. “The incident looks like a suicide case, but we have ordered a strict enquiry into the incident,” said DIG Kuladhar Saikia. It may also be mentioned that Guwahati Police Commissioner Pradip Chandra Haloi stated that Kathar was on duty till 2 pm and was alone during the incident. “We are also examining the possibility that the jawan was killed by accidental firing,” said Haloi. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Assam had mourned the tragic death incident of the jawan who hails from Morigaon district. He had been in the CM residence for the past two months.
