35 shops gutted in devastating fire in Lower Dibang Valley : Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar, Aug 1: At least 35 shops were reduced to ashes in a devastating fire which broke out at Middle Market Line of Roing township in Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday night.

Official sources from the district informed that the fire incident took place at around 8.15 pm which could be contained after fire-fighting operations through the night.

Two fire-fighting trucks from Chapakhowa in Assam, one from Tezu, two from Roing fire service and three tankers from BRO and one from PHED were pressed into service to douse the spreading fire, the sources said.

At least 20 families have been rendered homeless. However, no casualty has been reported.

The district administration has opened up the government Circuit House and the Anchal Samiti hall at Roing where eleven families consisting of fifty-one members have been given accommodation with food. Immediate relief materials like tarpaulin, bedding, drinking water have been provided.

The administration has constituted an assessment committee with a Circle Officer as chairman and the DSP, district disaster management officer (DDMO) and district food and civil supply officer (DFCSO) as members. The committee would submit its assessment report by Thursday. Immediate monetary relief as relief has been provided to all the victim families by the administration as per norms.
