Itanagar: At least 54 residential houses along with one community hall and a granary were reduces to ashes in a massive inferno that broke out at Kaying Village in Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday morning, a district official said.

Another 21 houses were also partially damaged in the inferno, the cause of which is yet to be ascertained, Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) Tagam Mibang informed.

Though human casualty was not reported, a woman sustained minor injury in the incident, the EAC added.

Mibang has appealed the state government, community based organisations and NGOs to extend all possible help and support to the villagers.

Meanwhile, Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering expressed shock over the incident and deposited an amount of one lakh to the account of Siang district DC as an immediate relief to the fire victims.

Ering also assured to provide an amount of ten lakh from his MLA local area development fund for procurement of CGI sheets for the victims.

“It is very unfortunate to know about the inferno. Due to the nation lockdown nothing can be done. My deepest regrets to the families in such hard times when the whole world is fighting against coronavirus,” Ering said in a Facebook post.
