Itanagar: The dawn-to-dusk bandh call given by a student organization at Aalo township, the headquarters of West Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday, went off peacefully without any report of untoward incidents, police said. The bandh was total despite the district administration declaring it as ‘illegal’, as all vehicular traffic went off the road while all business establishments and private offices remained closed during the bandh sponsored by the Aalo Area Students’ Union (AASU).

However, all government offices functioned normally.

Earlier on Wednesday, the district administration had a sitting with the executive members of AASU to appraise about the action taken by the government and the district administration pertaining to all the points raised by the union but the AASU decided to go ahead with the bandh call.

As precautionary measures, the additional deputy commissioner in pursuance of the order of Supreme Court, Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities prevention Act 2014 and in exercise of power conferred U/S 144 Cr. pc declared the said bandh illegal and unlawful and cautioned the bandh callers of stern action on damage to public and private properties.

The district administration and police beefed up the security to contain any unlawful activities.
