Assam Rifles Recovers Arms of NSCN (R) In Changlang district

Itanagar: Security forces in Arunachal Pradesh recovered arms and ammunitions belonging to NSCN (R) from the bank of Tirap river in Changlang district recently during a search operation.

Based on a specific intelligence input of presence of NSCN (R) cadres in the area of Khuchep, in the district, a major search operation was launched by troops of Assam Rifles in the area, a defence communiqué informed here on Thursday.

During the course of the search, an AK 56 automatic assault rifle was recovered along with 15 rounds and one magazine. It was later found that one of the insurgent had lost his weapon while he was trying to cross the river to avoid the security forces, Kohima based Defence Spokesman Lt Col Sumit Sharma informed in the communiqué.

The operation was part of intense drive that has been launched against the proscribed groups in Tirap area of South Arunachal Pradesh. The recovery is seen as a major success against the groups which are feeling the crunch of resources and weapons.

The recovered weapon has been handed over to the Changlang Police for further investigation and forensic analysis, the spokesman added.
