ITANAGAR: A capacity-building training programme on scientific beekeeping for self-help groups (SHGs) of Namsai district in Arunachal Pradesh was launched at the Arunachal University of Studies (AUS) campus on Monday.

A total of 45 members, in three batches of 15 each, from different SHGs and unemployed women of the district will undergo the training programme which would run for three weeks of 6 days each.

It has been arranged in such a way that women attendees could start their own venture. The programme is organized by BMMU Namsai ArSRLM under 'DAY NRLM' in collaboration with the Arunachal University of Studies. AUS Program Director Dr Rani Jha in her deliberations explained how the training would target at helping the rural women to get skilled in beekeeping trade for microenterprise development.

"This will empower rural women for better income and self-sustenance," she said and emphasizsed on the scope and importance of skill training that would enhance the socio-economic status of rural masses, especially women entrepreneurs.

University chairman Dr Ashwani Lochan in his address spoke about the importance of skill development training programmes for the benefit of rural women and self-help groups (SHGs).

Skill development training programmes are an attempt to bridge the skill deficits or facilitate optimization of production activities already pursued by the SHG members, Dr Lochan said and highlighted different skill development programs currently being run at the campus of the university for the benefit of local unemployed youths and women.

"This is in line with the set vision of AUS to empower the local youths with necessary skill-sets to start their own venture as a pathway to sustainable livelihood generation," he added.
